How our products are made

Our production process

Do you ever wonder how your clothes are made? Do you think about the people who make them and their working conditions? Making clothes is not as simple as you might think. Behind the scenes at a clothing manufacturing, a lot goes on to produce a single clothing piece. We would like to tell you more about our proces here.

Process steps

Our production process consists of several steps. Where in-house production activities such as drawing designs and gaining inspiration in Amsterdam come together with the production process abroad. For this production model we will focus on the steps of production process abroad.

1. Creating our fabrics and prints

To prevent overproduction, we mainly use left over fabrics for our collections. This means that the fabrics have already been produced, but are left over from other productions. For some productions it is not reachable to use leftover fabrics, so then we use freshly made. We mainly work with 100% cotton or 100% viscose/rayon. These plain fabrics will be printed either y hand block printing or hand screen printing. After the printing the fabrics are washed, fixed and dried, before it is ready to use.

2. Pattern-making

The pattern master’s job is essentials in creating a well-made garment. A pattern-master must consider many factors when making a pattern, such as a wearer’s shape and size, the fabric type etc.Each piece of clothing is carefully cut to perfection with a template. Then, the pattern-maker ensures that every part, will fit seamlessly together as one complete outfit when assembled correctly!

3. Cutting

Next is cutting. The patterns are placed on the fabric and cut out. Stacks of fabric are often placed on top of each other to quickly cut multiple pieces of fabric. In our Ateliers they use two different cutting techniques. 1. by hand with fabric scissors or 2. with a machine cutting tool.

4. Sewing

Sewing is an important step in the process of making clothes. All the different patterns are put together here to create a completely wearable piece of clothing.

5. Finishing

After the clothing is sewn together, it's time to finish them. This includes adding embellishments, such as labels, buttons, snaps or zippers. It also includes hemming the fabric to create a clean look and trimming away any loose threads.

6. Transportation

After the finishing the clothing is ironed and packed up for shipment. We mainly transport our items by sea containers or by plane.

Printing method

Block Printing

Block printing is the earliest, simplest and slowest of all methods of textile printing. The printing methode has been practiced for centuries in India, with Jaipur, Rajasthan, as a key hub of hand block-printing. It is a process that requires steady movement and careful hand-eye coordination. The traditional technique of fabric printing involves the use of carved wooden blocks that are dipped in dye and stamped on the fabric to recreate gorgeous designs. Block printed fabrics usually showcase a palette of colors that bring these designs to life.

Knitting

Our knit items are made in small local ateliers in Bali. All items are made with great care by hand, using a hand knitting machine. The production of knitting materials in Bali is a process that requires craftsmanship and attention to detail. From selecting the best yarns to knitting the fabric on the hand knitting machines, every step is carefully carried out to ensure high-quality and beautifully finished products. This traditional craft approach not only ensures high-quality knitting materials, but also contributes to the rich cultural heritage of Bali.
